Harper's is pleased to present 12 Artists, a group exhibition with works by: Tyler Ballon, Tizta Berhanu, Anthony Coleman, Diane Dal-Pra, Al Freeman, Eliot Greenwald, Alexander Guy, Stacy Leigh, Tahnee Lonsdale, Charles Ly, Lily Wong, and Cai Zebin.
Harper’s Apartment is open to the public from 12pm to 6pm Thursday through Saturday; no appointment is necessary to visit the exhibition. The gallery will be closed on December 24-25, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
Tyler Ballon (b. 1996, Jersey City, NJ) received a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2018. Selected exhibitions include: “Black Bodied Black Microcosms,” CFHILL, Stockholm, SE (2020); and “Reflections of Baltimore: We, Too, Are MICA,” Reginald Lewis Museum, Baltimore, MD (2018). Ballon lives and works in Jersey City, NJ where he is a participant in the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation residency at MANA Contemporary.
Tizta Berhanu (b. 1991, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) received a BFA from Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2019. Selected exhibitions include: “Tomorrow/Today,” Investec Cape Town Art Fair, Cape Town, ZA (2020); “Addis Galling III,” Addis Fine Art, Addis Ababa (2019); and “Living Portraits,” Tanya Art Gallery, Seattle (2017). Berhanu lives and works in Addis Ababa.
Anthony Coleman (b. 1969, Philadelphia, PA) is a self-taught artist based in Philadelphia, PA.
Diane Dal-Pra (b. 1991, Périgueux, France) received a postgraduate degree from Les Arènes de Toulouse in 2015 and a BA from the University of Michel de Montaigne, Bordeaux in 2013. Selected exhibitions include: “Acqua in Bocca,” Galerie Derouillon, Paris; ”Of Course You Are,” Cob Gallery, London (2020); and "A Private Matter,” LM Gallery, Latina, IT (2019). Dal-Pra has participated in residencies including: Palazzo Monti, Brescia, IT; and Villa Noailles, Hyéres, FR. Dal-Pra is currently based in Paris.
Al Freeman (b. 1981, Canada) received an MFA from Yale University in 2010 and a BFA from Concordia University in 2005. Selected exhibitions include: “sweaty gray cotton tank top,” 56 HENRY, New York (2020); “Mössgron,” Carl Kostyal, London (2020); “More Comparisons,” 56 HENRY (2018); “Housewarming,” Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York (2018); “Cliché,” Almine Rech, New York (2018); “Episode 14 Geranium,” Stems Gallery, Brussels; and “August,” Harper’s Books, East Hampton (2016). Freeman lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and is represented by 56 HENRY.
Eliot Greenwald (b. 1983, Portland, ME) is a self-taught artist currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Selected exhibitions include: "Night Car,” Hesse Flatow, New York, (2020); "Homegrown,” Hauser & Wirth, New York (2020); "Got It For Cheap,” The Hole, New York (2019); “Summer Heat,” Ortega y Gasset, Brooklyn, NY (2018); and “Year Zero,” Cunsthaus/Tempus Projects, Tampa, FL (2018).
Alexander Guy (b. 1962, St. Andrews, Scotland) attended University of Dundee, UK from 1980-84 and the Royal College of Art, London from 1985-87. Selected exhibitions include: "Road Trips," Carl Kostyál, London (2020); “Funf Blider,” Galerie Peter Schmersal, Berlin (2014); “Glenrothes Now,” Artspace, Glenrothes, UK (2011); “East End Promise,” Red Gallery, London (2010); “Now Was Your Hands,” Amolfini, Bristol, UK (1996); and “Elvis & Marilyn, Immortal,” I.C.A., Boston (1994-98). Guy currently lives and works in Scotland.
Stacy Leigh (b. 1971, New York, NY) received a BFA from New York University. Selected exhibitions include: "36 Paintings,” Harper’s, East Hampton (2020); "Drawn Together,” Flag Art Foundation, New York (2019); "Nerves,” Fortnight Institute, New York (2017); “SOFT ANIMAL,” Field Projects, New York (2017); and “More Human Than Human,” Castor Gallery, New York (2015). Leigh is based in New York City where she is represented by Fortnight Institute.
Tahnee Lonsdale (b. 1982, Reading, England) received a BA from Byam Shaw School of Art, London in 2006. Selected exhibitions include: “Something Other Than This,” De Buck Gallery, New York (2020); “Flowers and Knots,” Pt. 2 Gallery, Oakland, CA (2020); “Tender Lion,” Delasposa, London (2019); "Furnished," Herrick Gallery, London (2017); and “Continental Shift,” Saatchi Gallery, London (2014). Lonsdale lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Charles Ly (b. 1984, San Jose, CA) received a BFA from Laguna College of Art and Design, Laguna Beach, CA in 2008. His work has been exhibited at various venues including Harper’s Apartment, New York; Rental Gallery, East Hampton; and Silas Marder Gallery, Bridgehampton. Ly currently lives and works in East Hampton and is represented by Harper’s Books.
Lily Wong (b. 1989, Seattle, WA) received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2011. Selected exhibitions include: "Built For Love,” Kapp Kapp, New York (2020); "Quixotic,” Ramp Gallery, London (2020); “Wild at Hand,” HVW8, Berlin (2018); “SOFT ANIMAL,” Field Projects, New York (2017); and “The BIRTH of a New VENUS,” ChaosDowntown Cháo, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2016). Wong is based in Brooklyn, NY and is represented by Kapp Kapp.
Cai Zebin (b. 1988, Guangdong Province, China) received a BFA from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in Guangzhou, China.
